craft day forgetfulness.............

I am so forgetful anymore it's ridiculous... my son needed to see the dentist four months ago and I still haven't remembered to call, my daughter needs a haircut and I forget to call until she comes home from school......

As I was canning my tomatoes this morning I REMEMBERED that I needed to post pics of our crafting day projects. I totally spaced it. ( I say that everytime I forget something)

So without further ado (i always wanted to say that ha)-- I'm a dork ..... PLEASE always remember that................

This was Chantel's project...she just drew out pumpkin shapes, sewed, stuffed, and inserted sticks from my yard and tied raffia around them. You can also coffee stain them. I forgot (ha) before I put the raffia on and I was too lazy to take it off. Still cute huh?

This is my project.... The countdown to halloween candy blocks. I got the idea from howdoesshe?. It's an awesome sight, check it out. Anyways we hade some 4x4 table legs outside that we used, and some cute scrapbook paper.

Now that I have this posted up I can go back to remembering something else I forgot to do.. This weekend is my anniversary, I need to go remind the hubs....... Talk to you later peeps.

Shadow Box

It seems like everywhere you look lately there are shadow boxes for sale.  They're all the rage now apparently.  A local scrapbooking store did something super cute and original as a project.  I took what they did and tweeked it to make it my own.

I took a regular shadow box and took out the glass.  The backing is cardstock.  The frame is a piece of cardboard with the middle cut out and the edges inked and distressed.  I stitched the primitive heart and cut circles out of patterened paper.  I added buttons, wording and a picture of mi familia.  I happen to just love it!  Super easy, super fun, and super cute!!

Gardening Tote

I have no green thumbs.  Not even an inch of a green thumb.  I love plants and flowers and have tried to nourish and love house plants, only to have them wilt and turn brown.  That being said, I started my very first garden this year.  I love the flavor of freshly picked onions and cucumbers.  I carried my trowel and hand shovel in a box out to the garden everytime I went out.  I stumbled upon a super cute super simple gardening tote and decided to make it for our craft day.  I'm trying my best to learn how to sew.  Dawn is the sewer of our family, but slowly and surely I am learning.  I have started a few projects that didn't turn out quite as I expected them to.  I got frustrated with them and my sewing machine and cut them up and threw them away.  I have a bit of a temper.  This is the first sewing project I've successfully started and finished (with a cute outcome, even.)  Dawn isn't much of a gardener so she plans on using her tote for something else.

I love it!  I even had to wash my gardening tools off before I put them into the bag for fear of getting the bag dirty.  I do live in reality so I know it's only a matter of time before dirt and bugs and mud happen on my lovely little tote, but for now when it's nice and new, I'm going to do my best to keep it clean.  My next goal is to make a little matching kneepad to kneel upon as I weed.
Wish me luck with the living of my veggies!

gingham dress

When we started this blog, we wanted to show off our crafts and crap. LOL (sorry) But life seems to get in the way. Escpecially this time of year when school comes to a close and all I do is drive my kids all over H$#! Kens with dance and drivers ed. Its crazy here! But I did get to this dress I wanted to make for Chans' girl Em.

It only took me three days and four unpicking threads later! The ribbon I sewed on later to hide an inperfection! AND I didn't like the appliques that came with the pattern. I found one on my cricut and cut it out with that! Cute huh!!

Chan and I are behind on 'craft day'. We cant ever seem to find a weekend to ge!t together. SOON! See you then

Only a month late...

Let me start off by saying that I have a very needy 7 month old. She will be happily playing if I'm in the room, but the second I leave to throw away some garbage or to go to the restroom, she bawls hysterics. Needless to say, it's very difficult for me to find time to craft, let alone find time to blog about it. I am doing my best, but who knew keeping an update would be so hard?
Dawn and I are well known for starting projects and finishing them months and even years later. Our mom loves anything handmade and we are always promising her fabulous projects that appear months after her birthday or Christmas. Her birthday is April 1st and I started this frame the weekend before. I was sure I was going to get it done in time, HA! The good thing is my mom doesn't care.
The frame came from a local craft store that was closing. I got it 50% off. It came blank. I found the knobs at Home Depot where there is a large variety ranging from .97 cents to $5. The picture frames I found at Fred Meyer. I can't remember how much they were, but not too bad. I hot glued ribbon to the back of each picture frame, drilled the knobs into the frame, cut out some vinyl on my cricut, and took pictures of the grandkiddos. It was such an easy project, I have no idea why it wasn't done on time. The point is: It's finished, my mom loves it and it's no longer sitting in my craft room beckoning to me. I love it so much, I bought a frame for me as well and I'm going to have one of my own. That is, if I can ever get around to it.

Dawn posted a while ago about the guitar applique she made for my son. She made an adorable ladybug onesie for my daughter.
Please disregard the plastic arrow in her hands. Lol. So cute and easy. My husband and I dressed up for Halloween a couple of years ago and made our costumes. He decided to make my son a monster out of the leftover material. He's better on my sewing machine than I am. Dawn recently made Lumpy a friend. On the left is Lumpy and right is Mr. Laughy....both named by my 5 year old.

Future seamstress or seamster?......

Saturday morning I laid out these quilt squares.........

walked into my craft room to start sewing and I find this.

He loves to SEW now! Its hilarious! ......He begs me to sew constantly!

This is a boy (like every boy) that thinks he is HOT to women (at ten he really does think this). Loves golfing, motorcyling, snowboarding, basketball etc. and now I can add seamstress to his resume. I love it!!

T shirt applique

Hey we are back!!! Its been a crazy week and I'm ready to do some more crafting. I had Chantels' little boy Beck for a couple of weeks and he actually got me to do some projects for him! He wanted a rag quilt, Cause I "supposedly" made one for everyone but him and he wanted a monster guy for his friend 'Lumpy' (another monster guy). I'll show pics of those projects later but on to this one.

Over the weekend I made an appliqued ladybug tshirt for my niece Emery. (sorry no pic, I'll get Chan to put one up) Beck wanted one but with a guitar. I found a design on a blog I frequent. But I forgot which one! OOPS sorry. Let me know if you, our AWESOME 9 followers, happen to know whose blog this was on! (on a side note note: I LOVE that we have nine followers!! I was surprised that we even got that many! SO Thank you all for joining our crazy craft world!) Anyways.....

Walmart has these tshirts for 2.00. 2.00 PEOPLE!!! Hello buy as many as you can for gifts!! Can you imagine the possibities you can do with these shirts!!! OK again sorry. Beck picked this green and I had some leopard fabric.

I drew out a guitar and cut it out of the leopord fabric. You can iron on fusible backing for stability. I didnt like using it, I didn't want the stiffness and I don't like the goopiness on my sewing machine. Pin up really good!

Sew a 1/4 inch around the guitar.

On the second go round I sewed it really crazy like. I wanted the sloppy look.

Now on all guitars you have to have what they call 'in the biz' pickups and volume controls. sew them buggers on.

there you have it!! So cute and stylish! I hope he loves it! He is five and has his own set of drums, and even a band named 'Fireghost'! He's awesome and has the best imagination!

Thanks for stopping and we will talk to ya later!

just a few things.....

just a few things to show off..... First i want to show you a scrapbook canvas that me and Chan made not too long ago. She just got the canvases at a craft store and we scrapbooked on it. I finally found a picture that I liked. I think it turned out pretty cool!

Chan made a cute cute one also.... I need to bug her to get it on here.

Also I want to venture into the sewing clothes area!! I'm a little scared, but I know all the basics of sewing, so pray I will be able to handle it!! Here are the two patterns I want to try first. The baby dress I want to make out of some cute polka dot material, for Chantel's little girl Emery. Wish me lucK!!!

ABC book

Ok...I'm not going to totally take credit for this project. A local craft store in town was actually having a class on it and I stole the idea and changed a few things that needed changing. For starters, the store had every page exactly the same. I created a little variety in the pages and I also Cricut cut the letters to match the picture, something else the store did not do. Having worked at a scrapbook store for 2 years, I fully understand the need for cost effectiveness, but the store had a sticker of a cheetah for C and a sticker of a tiger for T. They looked identical so I switched some of them up a bit. For X they had a picture of Extra gum. What child is going to put that together with the letter X? Most of the pictures came from the Doodle Charms Cricut cartridge if you're interested.

bunny make do and future chippendale?!

before i get to my project, I have to show this pic of my son....... He has this obsession with showing everyone his chest. Maybe he wants to be a future stripper?!... anyways.... sorry about that.

Now on to my project....Since we were so busy in March (I don't know with what). I didn't get my Easter project done until the day before easter. But you could leave this cute guy out until the end of May for spring. Right? I need some reassurance people..

I first drew out a pic of a bunny head and traced it onto doubled muslin. Sew onto your traced lines. Leave a few inches open at the bottom of the head for turning, stuffing it, and attaching him to your old mattress spring

Grab ya some chenille stems, these will be used in the ears so you can reposition them. (do this before you stuff) fold the stem in half and stick inside his ears. Now stuff him!

sew some vintage buttons. I used two different sizes, because I like the primitive look. Cut a triangle out of wool and handstitch. Also handstitch a mouth with embroidery thread. Brush on some blush for cheeks.
Ok now to the antiqueing........ mix you up a pot of strong coffee. Or if you prefer a not so grungy look, just make a cup of tea. Using a brush, 'paint' the coffee on him. soak him good!

Now stick him into the oven on 200 degrees, watch him cause he will burn. I usually keep them in there for about 15 to 20 minutes. It gives it that good rusty, grungy look.

Now when he is dry and all antiqued up, twist him onto your rusty mattress spring. I got mine from my back yard. I don't know how it got there.....but it was out there a long time and I seen lots of people using the springs for crafting. So stick a box spring outside and let it rust and you can make a whole batch of thesebuggers! Enjoy!
