Big Wall Clock

Dawn and I weren't able to get together for a March craft day. Apparently spending time in Vegas is more important than traveling to craft with your sister. Oh, well. We got together over Easter to do some crafting and this was my craft. My living room has no clock or any way to tell time. I never wear a watch so we always make our 5 year old run tell us the time from the oven in the kitchen. I know, pathetic, right? I have absolutely no more shelf room for a sitting clock. We have a big empty wall that we were thinking of mounting bookshelves on. Instead I came up with this idea. I LOVE it!! No more running to the kitchen, son. First, I had Dawn's husband cut us 38x38 inch plywood. You can also buy them at Home Depot if you don't have the luxury of a woodworking shop around. I don't and was fully prepared to buy them. They are really cost effective there.

We planned on using 9 12x12 sheets of paper so each would be spaced a half inch apart. We also mapped out a half inch in from each edge. To save on paint, we only painted those areas.

Next, we marked where each piece of paper should be lined up. Then we mod podged each sheet down.

For some reason, I only took photos of Dawn's while in process and mine as the end result. I'll have her post hers up later. We saved the middle sheet for last simply because we had to drill a hole for the actual clock workings and make sure everything was lined up and centered. I purchased the actual clock from a local craft store. It was called Big Time Clock.

Next, we lined up all our numbers. The clock kit I bought included self-adhesive numbers and an outline placement for us idiots who can't ever make things straight.

After this semi-frustrating step, we drilled screws in the back and wired it to hang.

Finished. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I love it and even when I'm not wearing my contacts I can still tell the time clear across the room. There is absolutely no reason to ever be late to anything again. Do you hear that, dear husband of mine? linking up on
